Begonia semperflorens (Begonia ‘Super Olympia’ Series)

Life: Perennial to Annual

Size: 6-8"

Light: Bright Shade or Filtered Sun

Water: Moderately Moist, Well-Drained, Somewhat Drought Tollerant Once Established

Soil: Rich

One of the most widely grown green leaf cultivars, 'Super Olympia' replaced the original 'Olympia' line with larger, more brightly colored flowers, more uniform growth, and an earlier bloom time. They can be planted in pots, hanging baskets, or the ground, but protect them from direct midday sun, particularly in summer, as this can burn the foliage. Though technically an annual, our winters are mild enough that they are often root-hardy. Sometimes, they may not be frozen back at all; if this happens, a good, hard late winter or early spring pruning will encourage fresh growth for the new year. Flowers come in red, pink, white, and rose.
