Calendula officinales (‘Orange Porcupine’)

Life: Annual

Size: 24"

Light: Full Sun

Water: Average, Well Drained

Soil: Any

A highly unusual cultivar, the bright orange flowers, 2½-3½" across, stand out with their quill-like petals forming pompoms. They really do look like balled up porcupines! They love the cool weather from fall to spring and only need protection during a severe cold spell. Their long stems make excellent cut flowers, and in fact the more flowers that are cut off, the more new blooms will be created. Deadhead spent flowers to promote new buds.
