Chrysanthemum nipponicum (Montauk Daisy)

Life: Perennial

Size: 2½-3'

Light: Full Sun

Water: Average, Good Drainage, Moderately Drought Tollerant

Soil: Acidic to Neutral Loam, Salt Tollerant

At first glance, the 3-4" white flowers with their yellow centers look just like Shasta Daisies. However, the deep green foliage, while the same general shape as a Shasta, is more succulent and sedum-like. Each fall, from September to November, the plants will be covered with their white blooms, which make excellent cut flowers. They do well in beds or containers, and the older woody stems are easily propegated by placing a node into the soil. The younger stems are stout and green. Though tollerant of salt and a moderate drought, they will develop 'rough' leaves if there is inadequate moisture. The plants may die back during a particularly cold winter, but are normally hardy.
