Cosmos bipinnatus (Cosmos ‘Sonata’ Series)

Life: Annual

Size: 2'

Light: Full Sun

Water: Dry to Average, Good Drainage, Somewhat Drought Tollerant Once Established

Soil: Mildy Acidic to Neutral, Poor Sandy Loam to Loam

This award winning, 2' tall variety was originally bred for home gardens rather than as cutting flowers like the rest of the C. bipinnatus family. However, they make excellent cutting flowers; just use a smaller vase since their stems are shorter. Their 2¾", single, daisy-like blooms come in white, rose, pink and carmine surrounding a yellow center. The bushy plants have airy, finely cut foliage and prefer full sun and well-drained soil. Native to Mexico, they bloom from mid-spring through the summer. If not using the flowers for cutting, be sure dead-head on a regular basis to keep bud production at a peak.
